Toyota Prius, 2017 Honda Clarity CA Launch, Tesla Model 3 Drag
The 2017 Honda Clarity Fuel Cell will go on sale in California in late 2016, and a planned plug-in hybrid model for 2018 will have an electric range of at least 39 miles, the carmaker confirmed ahead of the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show.
Customers interested in the Clarity Fuel Cell are encouraged to sign up at http://www.HondaCars.com/Honda-FCV where they can receive more information and sign up for the opportunity to become a future Clarity Fuel Cell customer. Honda didn’t mention any exact pricing details, but they expect it to fall in line with other vehicles in the segment (the Mirai starts at $58,325).
“We will begin marketing the new Clarity Fuel Cell to our customers here in the USA next year”, Harty said. Honda just unveiled its Clarity Fuel Cell Vehicle for the first time in the United States and it’s set to hit the streets of California in 2016. “No other energy carrier can match the versatility of hydrogen in this regard”. The car’s fueling time is about 3 minutes – roughly the same as a gasoline-powered auto – and as long as the source of the hydrogen is clean, it truly is a zero emissions vehicle.
“Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are a zero emissions technology that Honda believes in, and has worked to advance for more than 20 years”, said John Mendel, executive vice president, American Honda Motor Co., Inc, in a release.
Honda says the new Clarity represents two decades of fuel cell innovation as well as more efficient packaging. Exterior colors include black, white, and the show car’s signature red exterior. The reason for this increased range is because of its larger fuel cell stacks which is 33 percent more compact than the current model. What’s even more clever is how the fuel cell is the size of a V6 engine, and so fits under the hood like like a normal engine.
Honda sees hydrogen and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles as one of the most promising pathways to address climate change by reducing Carbon dioxide emissions of transportation.
There is also a 60 percent increase in its power density when compared to the Honda FCX Clarity being replaced.
The Clarity Fuel Cell platform will also serve as the basis for an upcoming plug-in electric hybrid that will be available in all 50 states by 2018.
