Tracy Morgan in Talks to Play Redd Foxx in Richard Pryor Biopic
But now comeback kid Tracy Morgan could get the chance to play one of his heroes after it emerged he is in talks to play Redd Foxx in a forthcoming Richard Pryor biopic. Morgan is set to play Red Foxx, perhaps best known from the sitcom Sandford And Son and his explicit comedy albums in the ’60s and ’70s. The comedian released a statement saying, “Mr. Foxx, I hope I do you justice!”. “It will be an honor to portray an icon”.
And now the production has just gained a new cast member to play another iconic comedian.
Actor Tracy Morgan retweeted the Hollywood Reporter’s post concerning his potential turn as Redd Foxx in an upcoming Richard Pryor biopic. Though, neither The Weinstein Company nor representatives for Tracy Morgan would comment. It will be Morgan’s first starring role in a movie since last year’s Top Five, which was written, directed and starred Chris Rock.
Mike Epps will play Pryor and Kate Hudson has signed on to portray the late comedian’s wife. In addition to being a fearless performer who wasnt afraid to take on social norms and push boundaries, he also ran a comedy club and gave the younger comic an early career break by letting him open for the industry veteran.
Other stars attached to the project include Oprah Winfrey, who’ll play Pryor’s grandmother as well as Taraji P. Henson and Eddie Murphy, who’ll play Pryor’s parents. He would later appear alongside both Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor in the dramatic period comedy Harlem Nights.
