Trade deal, Keystone open Clinton to flip-flop charges
The TPP, when implemented, will be considered as a major achievement for Barack Obama.
After months of hinting she might oppose the Trans-Pacific Partnership, Hillary Clinton made it official this week.
Clinton’s supporters say a few shifts are the natural outcome of decades of public service and changing public opinion. “But based on what I know so far, I can’t support this agreement”. “It was part of a strategy. We’re going into this with one arm tied behind our backs”.
Clinton’s criticism is in contrast to what she said in a 2014 CNN interview where she defended Obama on this same issue. We’ve lost American jobs to the manipulations that countries, particularly in Asia, have engaged in.
The Obama administration has flatly refused these requests. She also expressed concern about the potential impact on global drug prices. “We are looking forward to obtaining Trade Promotion Authority from Congress. That is another significant accomplishment”.
Since then, Obama’s negotiators completed an economy-boosting deal that would make unprecedented strides toward protecting workers and the environment – raising standards internationally while protecting America’s own.
“It’s important for all Democrats to keep the word “mistake” firmly on the Republicans”, said chief strategist Mark Penn, at the time, according to the book, “Her Way: the Hopes and Ambitions of Hillary Rodham Clinton“.
There’s also much speculation that Vice President Joe Biden entering the race for President. Clinton believes banks are already structuring their operations to avoid it, and she would push to enforce its “underlying goals”, her campaign said.
“And, under this agreement, we, rather than countries like China, are writing the rules for the global economy”, said Obama when addressing U.S. business leaders.
“That’s not to paper over the differences, there is a stark difference over this issue, Earnest said”. As Ms. Clinton understood then, the TPP was not only about economics but also about geopolitics. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D), two of her rivals for the Democratic presidential nomination, came out against it long ago.
Obama, a fierce supporter of the deal, says the partnership “levels the playing field for our farmers, ranchers and manufacturers”.
Clinton’s support for trade deals has seemed to fluctuate with the political calendar. But in 2010, as secretary of state, Clinton said the deal was “strongly in the interests of both Colombia and the United States”. “And I still believe that’s the high bar we have to meet”, she said. “But we have to make a strong case for it”.
Following her statement, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka applauded Clinton for standing up against the agreement.
Sanders, however, released a statement saying he stands with the president here and opposes the no-fly zone.
The Trans-Pacific Partnership, the largest regional trade agreement to date, is likely to bring economic and political losses to Russian Federation, unless it changes its policy and decides to become a part of trans-Pacific trade liberalization in the future. She was obviously my secretary of state.
For an encore, Clinton has just proposed a punitive tax on high-frequency trading, labeling risk-taking that creates liquidity in the markets as “an abuse”.
The New York businessman has seen tremendous success in early primary state polls.
“Kevin is wrong and I would ask your viewers and anyone else who’s suspicious and those that have been supportive, don’t focus on the words that people not on the Committee use, focus on the actions of those of us who have been on the Committee for the previous year and a half”.
