A large group of LSU fans were on that train, a news station in Baton Rouge told WIAT. The train travels daily between those two cities. None of the train’s passengers were injured in the collision, according to Amtrak spokesperson Kimberly Woods. “My back was to the engine and I felt a thump and we saw a big ball of smoke”.
Bessemer police said the railroad crossing arms were working when the crash happened, and an investigation was under way on whether the truck driver was trying to beat the train, WAFB reported.
At the time of the incident, 124 passengers were on the train.
Service on the train later resumed.
