A train has derailed near Watford Junction, operator London Midland has confirmed.
Radio reporter Sarah Lowther, who was on the derailed train, said two trains were “kissing each other” in a tunnel.
He said that because of where the incident happened, there will be disruption to services in and out of London Euston for at least most of the morning. The train heading north did not leave the tracks.
Emergency services are at the scene.
Engineers were waiting for the trains for be evacuated before they could remove the train and reopen the line.
Sections of the M40 were also closed due to flooding.
A Virgin train has derailed after smashing into a landslide and hitting another train during the morning rush hour.
Their conditions were not thought to be serious or life-threatening, a spokesman added.
Passengers are being told to expect delays of up to 60 minutes, with the disruption expected to continue through Friday.
It comes after a night of torrential storms in London.
