Train slams into semi in Mountain Iron
The State Patrol had just wrapped up an inspection on the semi when it drove on to the tracks.
The case was investigated by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office.
The Minnesota Highway Patrol has released an officer’s dash camera video of a train slamming into a truck on the tracks. As he pulls back out onto the icy road, the driver moves ahead, slowly, approaching the train tracks directly in front of him. The driver seemingly ignores the flashing lights at the intersection as the train blares its horn.
The driver of the semi never stops, and there was a collision. The train, blowing its horns, comes into view and broadsides the semi.
The 67-year-old driver explains that he has a gash on his head, but denies needing medical treatment.
He can be heard via a microphone asking if the drivers of both the truck and the train are ok. He was cited for failure to stop at a railroad crossing; no word if he plans to contest that citation, but this video looks pretty conclusive to us.
