Transgender actress Alexis Arquette dies, aged 47
Alexis Arquette passed away on the morning of September 11 and Patricia Arquette is paying tribute to the life of her sister, fellow actress, and “first best friend, ‘ by posting her favorite songs on Twitter”. He starred in a number of films, including “Of Mice and Men”, “Bride of Chucky” and “The Wedding Singer”, before documenting his gender transition in the 2007 film, “Alexis Arquette: She’s My Brother”.
Along with Patricia, Alexis’ famous family also includes David and Rosanna Arquette. Richmond also said that Alexis Arquette “was a force” and that she lived her life on her own terms and that she died that way as well. The NY Daily News reports that Arquette had been suffering from an undisclosed illness when she passed away.
Alexis Arquette was one of the earliest high profile advocates for transgender rights. The death, Richmond reported, was “fast and painless”.
“I am feeling huge gratitude to have been afforded the luxury of sharing life with him/her, for learning from Alexis, for being given the gift of being able to love him/her and to be loved by him/her”. It was an incredible moving experience and I am humbled and grateful to have been able to have been with him as he began his journey onward.
In February, actor David Arquette reportedly said during an appearance on “Kocktails with Khloe” that Alexis no longer identified as transgender. Her first role was as a transvestite named Georgette in the 1989 film “Last Exit to Brooklyn”.
However, Boyhood actress Patricia posted a video of Bowie’s hit song Starman on her Twitter page in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The pop singer Boy George paid tribute to Arquette in a posting made on his social media account. “My sincerest sympathy to the Arquette family and to all the fans who loved and admired Alexis”.
Boy George also shared a post to his late friend in which he said that another bright light was now gone from the world too soon.
