‘Transparent’ creator Jill Soloway calls Trump ‘inheritor to Hitler’
Jill Solloway won the Emmy for Outstanding Director of a Comedy Series for her work on Transparent and gave quite possibly the greatest speech of the entire tonight.
“He calls women pigs if they don’t look like beauty pageant contestants”.
Soloway, who also won in the same category past year, called Transparent a “revolution” and thanked the trans community for their “lived lives”.
Amazon’s Transparent follows Mort (Jeffrey Tambor) as he transitions to the female Maura and how her decisions ripple throughout one family in Los Angeles. People ask me if it’s hard to be a director, and I tell them, ‘no.’ Life is very hard. Being a good partner, being a good mother, being a good person is hard. Solloway began her speech by explaining that for her being a director is easy because she has the opportunity to make her dreams come true.
“Jews were otherized in Nazi Germany to gain political power for Hitler, and right now Donald Trump is doing the same thing”, said Soloway, who is Jewish, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Recently, in response to Matt Bomer’s casting as a transgender sex worker in forthcoming film Anything, trans actress Jen Richards launched a conversation about the problems with cisgender men being cast as transgender women.
She then raised her award high and shouted, “Topple the patriarchy!”
