Travis Browne vs. Matt Mitrione Confirmed For UFC Fight Night 81
Dillashaw (12-2) has cemented himself as the sport’s top 135-pounder but only in the stead of Cruz (20-1), the UFC’s first bantamweight kingpin.
These two newly announced fights join an already strong looking line-up which is headlined by a bantamweight title showdown between TJ Dillashaw and Dominick Cruz, plus an exciting lightweight encounter between former champ Anthony Pettis and Eddie Alvarez.
Rebounding heavyweights Matt Mitrione and Travis Browne have been waiting a while to get their next fights booked in, and are now finally confirmed to face off on January 17, 2016 in Boston.
That was Boetsch’s first fight training under former UFC contender Marcus Davis at the Team Irish MMA Fitness Academy in Brewer, and with that win he earned a $50,000 performance of the night bonus.
Boetsch has lost five of his last seven fights in the UFC, most recently getting knocked out by Dan Henderson in June.
Travis Browne will try to avoid his first career losing streak.
These two UFC veterans are both fighting for survival after disappointing runs in the Octagon of late. Pettis-Alvarez is, while not quite a dream match, is a fantastic fight on paper in terms of relevance and potential action.
The Boston, Massachusetts-based Cruz is 7-3 but has dropped three of his last four fights, including a split-decision loss to Julian Lane in his most recent fight January 30 at Lincoln, Rhode Island.
