Trevone Boykin issues apology after arrest, bowl game suspension
TCU Horned Frogs quarterback Trevone Boykin allegedly assaulted a police officer, and the team suspended him for its Alamo Bowl showdown against the Oregon Ducks on Saturday.
He tweeted: “Word can’t describe how sorry I am”. I truly let down my family, teammates and the TCU and Fort Worth communities who have supported me so much. He said he has no excuses for his “very poor decision” and that he was embarrassed. “With our backs against the wall, me personally, I love when people count us out, when they count us out personally”. I have full confidence in my teammates when they take the field Saturday. Boykin said he wished he could play, “but I won’t because of my mistake that I have no one to blame but myself”. “I apologize to everyone again for my lapse in judgement”. I hop others can learn from my mistake.
San Antonio Police Chief William McManus confirmed during an afternoon press gathering that Boykin struck the officer but McManus said it isn’t known whether Boykin was trying to hit the officer or swinging at another person.

TCU suspended Boykin following the arrest in advance of the Alamo Bowl on Saturday.
Schlabach added Boykin was charged with third-degree felony assault of a police officer.
The skirmish was set off by Boykin being heckled in the bar about the upcoming game, McManus said.
Ward threw for 238 yards and ran for 67 yards as Houston (13-1) scored the most points allowed by No. 9 Florida State (10-3) this season. But the Ducks had a rough transition after quarterback Marcus Mariota, last year’s Heisman Trophy victor, left school early for the NFL.
