Trevone Boykin: ‘No excuses for my very poor decision’
In his first public comments since Trevone Boykin was arrested for third-degree assault Thursday and suspended for the Valero Alamo Bowl, TCU coach Gary Patterson expressed his disappointment over the incident and his hope that players learn from his quarterback’s mistake.
Patterson said he was disappointed with his quarterback but knew the decision he had to make after Boykin was arrested early Thursday morning for allegedly hitting a police officer in a bar fight.
Boykin is facing charges of assault of a police officer, resisting arrest and public intoxication. TCU sent Boykin home after he posted a $5,000 bond and was released from custody Thursday morning.
‘I wish I could be there, but I won’t because of my mistake that I have no one to blame but myself, ‘ he wrote. “I have full confidence in my teammates when they take the field on Saturday”. McManus said the officer was treated for a swollen face as well as bruises and abrasions suffered when he and Boykin fell to the ground during the altercation. After police were called to break up the incident, Boykin allegedly struck an officer in the face. According to the San Antonio Police Chief, William McManus, it is unclear if Boykin meant to take a swing at the officer or if his punch was intended for someone else. Bexar County Magistrate’s website showed Boykin was arrested at 1:45 a.m. Thursday. He came back. He was finally subdued after being threated with a (stun gun).

“At some point, Mr. Boykin struck the officer, both of them fell, his teammates tried to get him away – prior to this, his teammates had tried to take him back to the hotel, and he broke away from them and came back, and then he got into it with the officer”, McManus said.

The report said that the fight began when patrons recognized the star quarterback player and exchanged words.
