Trier misses 3 at buzzer, No. 9 Arizona falls to Colorado
Miller’s line about an Arizona player potentially punching a fan is the part that will get a great deal of media attention in the aftermath of this court storm.
University of Arizona coach Sean Miller made national headlines Wednesday night when, following his team’s 75-72 loss to the Colorado Buffaloes, he talked about how the Pac-12 needs to abolish the practice of court storming.
On Wednesday, it was Colorado’s turn to rush the court as the Buffaloes defeated the No. 9 Wildcats 75-72. And only when it happens will everyone take a deep breath and say, “We have to do something to protect both teams.'”If 7-foot-2, 250-pound Kaleb Tarczewski gets bumped literally within three seconds of the game ending and he retaliates, what would be the response of our conference?” Miller said. “I’m watching this and telling you there’s going to be a situation that happens and they’ll be no turning back when it happens”. “I’ve kind of spoke to it being my last two home games being in Boulder, and I wanted to play well in those”.
“One thing is that we played aggressively down the stretch rather than getting tentative on offense”, Josh Scott said after the game.
Miller said he has appealed to the league for more crowd control at road venues.
The Arizona Wildcats (22-5) are coming from a 99-61 win over Arizona State last week.
Before the game began, the analysts on the ESPN pregame show predicted that the game would come down to the post players for each team, and they were absolutely right.
“If it had gone in, I would have been beating myself up a lot”, Scott said. “I think we did that”. Make no mistake, this was 100-percent a team effort, the game was won through non-stop hustle for all 40 minutes of the game. That’s the solution, right?
It’s the type of issue that is not one until it becomes one, and there are instances where players have been injured due to the wave of fans who suddenly run onto the floor.
To be clear, this was a big win for Colorado, the Buffs’ 20th and one that might be a difference-maker come Selection Sunday. Though his injury required surgery, he still believes students shouldn’t be disciplined for storming the court.
“My question is, ‘Why not every single time?’ That’s an answer we’ve got now”.
Scott finished with a season-high 26 points, with his overall mark of 10-for-18 from the floor including an 8-for-12 effort in the second half.
“Sometimes you have to take your hat off to the opponent and say tonight they were the better team and they were, ” said Miller. And though that game eventually earned them a spot in the AP Top 25 poll, this win should earn them a bid to the NCAA tournament.
While Scott had a career game for the Buffs, Wes Gordon filled up the stat sheet as well.
