Trooper Casey Released From Hospital
Trooper Patrick Casey said he feels better and is happy to be going home for Thanksgiving.
“As (Casey) was passing to do that, that’s when he took fire”, Capt. James K. Raykovitz, commanding officer of the Pennsylvania State Police barracks in Philadelphia, said Tuesday.
Raykovitz says Casey’s cruiser was rammed by the auto and the suspect drove alongside him and fired at the officer.
The encounter began as two troopers pulled over a vehicle, after which a suspect got back into his auto and fled.
The incident began at around 9:30 a.m. on I-76 at University Avenue when Pennsylvania State Troopers stopped a auto for expired registration, according to ABC’s Pennsylvania affiliate WPVI-TV.
As flames spread from his wrecked auto to the school bus, Cotto jumped from his vehicle and kept firing at Casey and other troopers, hitting Casey in the shoulder, police said. 45 he’s accused of using to shoot Trooper Casey, State Police say, so far, they know it was stolen in a 2011 Georgia burglary after it was originally purchased in Texas in 2009. The bus company has confirmed that no children were on the bus at the time of the crash, and that the driver is okay.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the Pennsylvania State Police Trooper shot on Interstate 676 in the line of duty today”. He called the trooper’s shoulder injury a “flesh wound”.
Pennsylvania is one of the states where the CDC says the bugs have been found.
Philly.com reported that at least eight bullet holes could be seen in the windshield of the trooper’s cruiser and the suspect’s vehicle window appeared to have been shot out.
Steve Glowacki saw it all unfold from across the street.
‘I saw a gunfight down here, ‘ he said while pointing to the interstate from an overpass. They are continuing to look for a fourth individual involved in Tuesday’s chase and shooting. “No matter what happens, I’ve gotta be there for my son!” Casey was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital for treatment, and he could be released as early as Wednesday.
Authorities say, the trooper won’t be publicly identified until his family members are notified.
The busy stretch of road was closed in both directions between Interstate 76 and Interstate 95, but it reopened later in the day.
