Tropical depression in the Atlantic expected to weaken
A few of the computer models show the possibility of some weak tropical system forming near Florida, but the impact for Florida is the same regardless of whether or not it develops.
A new tropical depression has formed in the central Atlantic Ocean.
The large area of disturbed weather extends from the southeastern Gulf northeastward across Florida.
The hurricane center said an area of low pressure could form once it gets into the Atlantic over the weekend, when environmental conditions could favor development. Little change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours.
The system will track farther west than Tropical Depression Nine, AccuWeather Meteorologist Becky Elliott said.
The depression is centered about 1,070 miles (1722 kilometers) east of the Lesser Antilles and is moving northwest near 6 mph (10 kph). It appeared the system would make a northwest turn into the northern Atlantic, but exactly when remained uncertain.
Invest 95 is hot on the heels of Tropical Depression Nine and could become a depression in the next couple days. After a couple of days, a slow west-northwestward motion toward Mexico is expected and land interaction should limit development, forecasters say.
