Troubled former Saints LB Junior Galette signs with Redskins for league minimum
The Washington Redskins announced today that they’ve signed former New Orleans Saints OLB Junior Galette for a 1-year vet minimum deal. The charges were dropped in February and the woman in the case filed a civil lawsuit the same day. The league also is reviewing a video which shows a man resembling Galette in a fight on a beach.
Then on Friday, before the battle had gotten under way in earnest, the Redskins signed fifth-year linebacker Junior Galette, overlooking red flags about the veteran’s character in favor of his prowess as a quarterback-sacking machine. The league minimum for a fourth-year player is $745,000.
“I guess I would say that I don’t feel like it has changed so much”, Hicks said.
The Redskins are trying to find an effective pass rusher opposite outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan. “But I think hopefully (players) understand that there’s a lot of work to get done before we can realize any kind of potential we have”.

After being released, Galette (and/or his girlfriend) went on a Twitter tirade. “We all make mistakes, but it’s what you do after that and I’m ready to learn from them and be part of this organization that’s ready [and] that’s taken me in as family”.
Galette (chest) has agreed to a one-year contract with the Redskins, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. “He had the opportunity to, if he had done what he had done the year before, he could have voided that second year, and we were dealing with Cam Jordan as well”.
On the possibility of a suspension, Gruden said: “There’s a concern there”.
The Cowboys All-Pro receiver could relax on the first day of training camp Thursday, thanks to the five-year, $70 million contract that was the only reason he was there in the first place.
“I feel like we’ve got a group that can do some special things”, the four-time Pro Bowl selection said.
Galette was released after posting 22 sacks the past two seasons with the Saints.
Shortly afterwards his cousin was arrested with narcotics in Galette’s vehicle which the pass rusher had to go retrieve. Galette met in late June with NFL officials, who are still investigating the matter. “I wouldn’t mind taking on the challenge of helping him get on the right path”.
