Troy Aikman believes Cowboys will sign RGIII or Manziel
Former Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman tells Sports Illustrated he expects either Robert Griffin III or Johnny Manziel to end up in Dallas.
After Tony Romo went down with two separate clavicle injuries in the same season, Dallas’ rotating quarterback circus featured the likes of Brandon Weeden, Matt Cassel and Kellen Moore and produced just one win.
Each quarterback’s situation with his current franchise – for Griffin, the Redskins, and Manziel, the Browns – is different, and yet the rumors circulating about each player’s preference for Dallas as a possible future destination are the same. “So what they do this year, the backup position, I think is going to be really, really important”. Manziel lost his starting job because of off-field behavior, but will be back in the lineup against the 49ers, said the person who spoke Monday, Dec. 7, 2015, to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team has not announced the move.
It’s even more hard to imagine that a return to his home state Texas, where he first became a superstar at Texas A&M, would make his partying days a thing of the past.
Brown stressed that Manziel needs to show the Browns that he’s committed to being the best quarterback he can be.
The Cowboys, led by team owner Jerry Jones, won’t come right out and say it, but whoever they add this offseason, whether it be Manziel, RGIII or one of the looming 2016 NFL Draft’s top prospects, will be the heir apparent to Romo. Oh, and don’t forget about the “Bring Johnny 2 Dallas” campaign.
The oft-injured Griffin did not get on the field for Washington this season, with Kirk Cousins leading the team to a 9-7 record and the NFC East title.
The problem with signing Griffin is that its more of a reclamation project as a football player, while Manziel’s issues mostly revolve on his problems off the field.
