Trump Accuses Obama of Tapping His Phone: ‘Sick’
United States president Donald Trump has accused his predecessor Barack Obama of ordering a tap on his phone.
Trump started tweeting shortly after 3.30am ET and posed the question: “Is it legal for a sitting President to be ‘wire tapping” a race for president prior to an election?’ He said that his phones were wiretapped by former President Obama before the election. “This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy!” he Tweeted. President Trump wrote. It’s unclear how President Trump’s usage of the word “McCarthyism”, was related to his problems with President Obama.
Mr Trump’s Saturday’s tweets claimed that Mr Obama had instituted wiretaps targeting him during the election season.
She said Mr Trump was the “deflector-in-chief” and was using the tools of “an authoritarian” to deflect attention from the real issue, his alleged contacts with Russian Federation.
Trump’s allegation, made in a string of tweets that offered no evidence of the information’s source, was “simply false”, Obama spokesman Kevin Lewis said in a statement. That power rests only with federal law enforcement, which must first get the approval of a FISA ( Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) court judge.
Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska issued a statement demanding that the President reveal everything he knows about any wiretaps or warrants. Turned down by court earlier.
Sanders told “Good Morning America” anchor George Stephanopoulos that Trump does not accept Comey’s denial, which has been reported by The New York Times and CNN.
Within minutes, former Obama press secretary Josh Earnest was firmly insisting that Trump’s claims had no basis.
U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Thursday he will recuse himself from any current or future investigations into Russia’s possible link with Trump’s presidential campaign, after admitting that he met with Kislyak twice a year ago but did not reveal it at the Senate hearings for his confirmation.
Trump’s administration has claimed to have been plagued by leaks within his administration to the media.
But despite Mr Trump’s protests about media bias, several high profile members of the Obama administration have denounced the wiretapping accusations as “false”.
