Trump accuses Schumer of Putin ties
Trump tweeted a photo of the Democratic senator from NY and Russian President Vladimir Putin laughing and holding donuts. Despite the Committee’s own statement that one of the objectives of their investigation would be “Did the Russian active measures include links between Russia and individuals associated with political campaigns or any other U.S. Persons?”, Nunes has been unwilling to pursue such allegations.
Schumer, D-N.Y., responded shortly after with a tweet of his own: “Happily talk re: my contact w Mr. Putin & his associates, took place in ’03 in full view of press & public under oath. Would you &your team?”
“Who was it that secretly said to Russian President, ‘Tell Vladimir that after the election I’ll have more flexibility?'” Trump wrote.
Sessions recused himself from the Russia investigation, but this decision is unrelated to the discovery that he spoke twice with the Russian ambassador despite his claims that he had no such meetings.
He called the NY senator a “total hypocrite” and called for a probe into Mr Schumer’s “ties to Russian Federation and Putin”.
Pelosi’s spokesperson later told Politico, “She has never had a private one-on-one with him”.
It emerged that Sessions had had two meetings with the Russian ambassador to the USA, one of which was at the Republican national convention in Cleveland.
“I’ve been on the Armed Services Com for 10 years”. The latest target for the blame campaign is Trumps pick for attorney-general, Jeff Sessions, who stands accused of failing to disclose his meetings with Kislyak during confirmation hearings. They lost the election, and now they have lost their grip on reality.
A number of individuals within Trump’s administration, including the president himself, were scrutinized for maintaining close links with Russian Federation before and after the election.
Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the pressure on Sessions resembled “the times of McCarthyism, which we thought were long over in the United States as a civilized country”.
Schumer, meanwhile, called for Sessions’ immediate resignation.
“As part of that practice, neither President Obama nor any White House official ever ordered surveillance on any USA citizen”.
Schiff said it is too early to know who will be called to testify before the committees investigating allegations that Russian Federation made attempts to influence the 2016 elections.
Trump also continued to slam Democrats for delaying the approval of his nominees. It’s wholly possible that Trump meant the threat of investigation as a sarcastic retort aimed at the New York Democratic senator, which would suggest a lack of respect for just how seriously such words are taken when coming from a president.
