Trump adviser: VP announcement Friday in New York
The meetings have been created to let Trump’s family get to know the candidates better before the presumptive nominee formalizes his decision.
Donald Trump had breakfast with in governor Mike Pence at the Governor’s Mansion in Indianapolis Wednesday morning.
Pence is an attractive choice for several reasons – he has both executive and congressional experience, something Trump has said he’s looking for in a potential running mate.
Numerous huddles are taking place in person in IN, where Trump remained Wednesday following a rally with Pence on Tuesday.
Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions met with presidential candidate Donald Trump in Indianapolis Wednesday. Trump’s kids and other advisers were also slated to meet with Gingrich, and presumably will sit down with Sessions.
The denouement ran like a script across Indianapolis, as reporters and television crews scrambled to capture footage of Trump and the vice presidential hopefuls.
According to a story from ABC News, Trump was not supposed to stay in IN last night, but stayed in the state after some “technical issues”.
Christie, 53, a one-time rival to Trump in the presidential race, is seen as a kindred spirit of Trump who would be a strong counterpuncher to Democrat Hillary Clinton, 68.
He added that Trump is cognizant that he needs to make a decision by Friday given gubernatorial succession rules in Indiana. “I have come here to make it as clear as possible, as to why I am endorsing Hillary Clinton”, Sanders said.
Trump is said to have narrowed his short list down to a trio of top contenders, including Pence.
Gingrich, 73, who is considered a leading candidate for the No. 2 slot, did not immediately respond to a CNN request for comment.
On Tuesday, Fox News Channel where Gingrich is an on-air pundit, suspended ties with him amid speculation he could be Trump’s V.P. pick.
“I think he is someone who has connected with everyday Americans like no one since Ronald Reagan”, Pence said.
“I don’t know if he’s going to be your governor or your vice president”, Trump told the crowd.
Christie and Gingrich apparently fit that bill.
There’s actually a logical reason for this: Choosing a boisterous, yet staunch critic of the Democratic ticket – like Gingrich or Christie – means that the “extraordinary warrior” tapped would become the primary agitator for the Democrats, thereby giving Trump more room to appear presidential.
The businessman is expected to unveil his VP pick before party leaders gather in Cleveland next week for the Republican National Convention.
“Nothing was offered. Nothing was accepted”, Pence said. But in an interview with ABC’s This Week Sunday, he said he was unsure whether he was being vetted for the role. Rice, though, doesn’t want the job, according to a separate source familiar with the process.
Trump and his aides have said the presumptive nominee has looked for candidates who have political experience and an ability to work with lawmakers in Washington.
