Trump adviser: Women should be ones to decide on abortion
Donald Trump is formally vetting a retired general as a potential running mate, but the 33-year Army veteran’s views on social issues are sure to draw an outcry from Republicans already wary about Trump’s conservative credentials. “They are the ones that have to make the decision because they are the ones that will decide to bring up that child or not”.
But this might give Flynn and Trump something to bond over, since the presumptive Republican nominee also faced criticism for his comments on abortion in March – but in his case, many conservatives felt he went too far.
No presidential candidate can expect to win if his own party’s base isn’t on board, and Trump is-after all-running as a Republican. Flynn has been advising Trump on foreign policy during the campaign, Politico reported. But he’s struggled over the issue, first saying that women should be punished for having illegal abortions, then shifting to doctors who perform them. “To make matters worse, our political leaders insist that the war is going very well, and the scores of professional analysts who know better are being censored when they report the truth to their superiors”.
But Trump told the Post he was leaning toward making a “political” pick.
“Flynn, 56, is a registered Democrat in North Carolina and served under the Obama administration for a time, but the tenure wasn’t without controversy”.
A Flynn pick would quite plainly signal to conservative voters that Trump is indifferent to their cause.
Now Flynn, 57, who has briefed Trump in person and penned memos for him, has emerged as more than a valued informal adviser – he’s a potential running mate.
– Flynn is also not the only general under consideration.
“This is a legal issue”, he told Business Insider while promoting “Field of Fight”, his new book set to be released on Tuesday. Information about Lieutenant General Flynn being considered as a Trump vice president candidate was leaked to the Washington Post by an anonymous source from within the Trump campaign. Giving our country options against any enemy that we face….
And, regarding Flynn’s allegedly pro-choice stance, what he said on ABC’s “This Week” was precisely accurate.
Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin, who’s also mentioned as being on the short list, said she hadn’t been asked for specific documentation, nor talked with Trump staff about being the vice-presidential nominee.
“What he’s really talking about, and I’m speaking for Mike Flynn, not Donald Trump, is that he’s saying essentially we have to have options”. “I do like the military, but I do very much like the political”, Trump told the newspaper.
At the top of the list is the Pattonesque General Michael Flynn (USA-Ret.), former deputy at the Joint Special Operations Command, whose deft handling of intelligence led to, among many other successes, the killing, in June 2006, of Abu Musab Al Zarqawi, the one most responsible for catalyzing ISIS, its character and brand.
