Trump Announces Picks For Three Key Roles In His Administration
President-elect Donald Trump chose Michael Flynn, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant general, to fill the role of assistant to the president for national security affairs. Jeff Sessions, a Republican from Alabama, to serve as attorney general, and Mike Pompeo, a Republican congressman from Kansas, as CIA Director.
In the House, the 52-year-old made his name as one of the leaders of the controversial Benghazi Committee, which targeted Trump’s presidential rival Hillary Clinton in its investigation of the 2012 attack on the U.S. consulate in the Libyan city which left four Americans, including the United States ambassador, dead.
Although not a cabinet position, the national security advisor has a pivotal role in shaping military and foreign policy. He led the charge in excoriating Democrats for not using the words “radical Islamic terrorism”, and published a book this summer called The Field of Fight: How We Can Win the Global War Against Radical Islam And Its Allies.
“We should not fear what it is we are facing, we should stand up to this”, Flynn said on The Kelly File.
Flynn’s retweet shows he knows that the Saudis, ISIS & the Jewish-NeoCons are the real enemies – NOT Assad & NOT Russia!
Flynn later tweeted a link to the Breitbart website on November 4.
Flynn later apologized, saying he’d only meant to retweet Mook’s remarks.
“It was a privilege to prepare and advise the policy, personnel and agency action teams on all aspects of the national security portfolio during the initial pre-election planning phase”.
Flynn, 57, burst on the political scene in August with a fiery speech at the Republican National Convention, where he emerged as a trusted Trump adviser on national security issues.
He will take the place of President Obama’s National Security Advisor Susan Rice, the left-wing policy wonk from the Brookings Institute who most notably soiled her reputation by lying about the cause of the Benghazi attack that killed four Americans on September 11, 2012.
Flynn enjoys tremendous access and credibility with Trump, especially because he’s had several tours of duty on the battlefield.
Trump is a foreign policy novice and his early moves on national security are being closely watched both in the USA and overseas.
Rogers is now a CNN National Security commentator and host, and executive producer of Declassified: Untold Stories of American Spies.
But the question may be whether his management style rubs people the wrong way.
Flynn’s dark warnings about Islam have not extended to the Islamist-leaning authoritarian Turkish government headed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Flynn brings to the job almost 30 years of military experience.
“I believe that the president-elect would be best served by a national security adviser who brings a steady and thoughtful demeanor to the Oval Office and can help offset the potentially impulsive nature of the next president”, said House Intelligence Committee chair Adam Schiff, citing Flynn’s closeness to Russian Federation and inflammatory remarks on Islam. “Hillary Clinton went there at least six times”. “Hmmm…” the younger Flynn wrote January 10, 2016, on Twitter in response to a Vox.com article on a dating site for whites only.
He heavily criticised Mrs Clinton’s handling of classified information, despite coming under scrutiny for his own handling of classified information. They say he was trying to convince Pakistan to stop sheltering terrorists. Flynn wrote that the intelligence community was not helping in the war effort. Flynn declined to comment further.
The retired three-star general, a veteran of America’s wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, has courted controversy with extreme statements that critics say border on Islamophobia.
And in 2010, while still a serving senior officer, he published an article criticizing the state of USA intelligence operations in Afghanistan.
