Trump calls Clinton ‘liar’ for Islamic State recruiting claim
U.S. Democratic presidential candidates clashed over who has been strongest on gun control at a debate on Saturday where a dispute over a campaign data breach intensified the battle between front-runner Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.
To date, Bill Clinton, whose love for the campaign trail is Democratic legend, has been largely a behind-the-scenes player during Hillary Clinton’s campaign.
“She comes off as more hawkish on some of her foreign policy ideas”, said Michael Briggs, a spokesman for Sanders.
Many were anticipating Sanders’s response to the data breach of Clinton’s campaign, which Clinton’s staffers called an “egregious breach of data and ethics”.
“She couldn’t get back on the stage last night I’ll tell you why”.
“It’s a process story and I don’t think voters care about it”, said unaligned Democratic strategist Craig Varoga.
Clinton campaign spokeswoman Jennifer Palmieri, interviewed later on ABC, said that her candidate was “not referring to a specific video”. Instead, he chose to forgo the political opportunity, just as he did in the first debate when he dismissed controversy over Clinton’s use of a private email server as secretary of state.
Hillary Clinton had a almost flawless performance at the Democratic debate, but on Sunday Republicans used one of her statements about the Islamic State jihadist group in an attack against her. She said that “it was not in America’s interest to react with this kind of fear and respond to this sort of bigotry”. “Now you can say that’s a tax on the middle class. It will provide three months of paid family and medical leave”, Sanders said, arguing it was well worth it. And he said Clinton’s criticism of payroll taxes is out of step with Democratic giants such as Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt, who oversaw the creation of Social Security, and Lyndon B. Johnson, who shepherded Medicare into law.
The two also disagreed over health care, with Sanders arguing that his Medicare-for-all vision of ending private insurance would save Americans money, while Clinton warned that it would leave more power in the hands of Republican governors.
“I am the lump of coal in Mrs. Clinton’s stocking”, Fiorina said on “Fox News Sunday”.
Multiple Clinton aides confirmed to CNN that the former president will start headlining events for the campaign in January, including solo events without his presidential candidate wife. A watch party organized by Clinton supporters included Sanders fans. We cannot have another bad president like we have right now. “We believe this audit should proceed immediately, and, pending its findings, we expect further disciplinary action to be taken as appropriate”, Fallon said.
O’Malley, for his part, took a big swing at both candidates and charged that “Secretary Clinton changes her position on this every election year, it seems”. Even with this issue, debate watchers described the candidates as congenial. This debate veered from questions about Syria to helping grow the United States economy to defeating ISIS.
The latest suspensions come after the campaign’s national data director, Josh Uretsky, was sacked on Friday for his involvement in the incident. On Meet the Press, host Chuck Todd asked Trump if he would change his language if he knew that his words were being used to recruit terrorists, and Trump replied, “No, because I think that my words represent toughness and strength”.
