Trump calls for a Starbucks boycott over their red holiday cups
Following the controversy about the Starbucks Christmas cup, Dunkin’ Donuts has released their holiday coffee cup featuring the word “Joy” surrounded by a wreath.
The coffee chain unveiled its seasonal coffee cup design on Tuesday amid controversy over Starbucks’ unadorned red coffee cup. “No more Merry Christmas on Starbucks”, he said.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump speaks during a campaign rally Monday, November 9, 2015, in Springfield, Ill. “By the way, that’s the end of that lease [at Trump Tower] but who cares”.
The cup made headlines when popular Facebook preacher and former TV and radio evangelist, Joshua Feuerstein, posted a Facebook video to his 1.8 million followers claiming that Starbucks was deliberately attacking Christianity and the birth of Jesus through its lack of Christmastime cup décor.
“If I become president, we’re all going to be saying “Merry Christmas” again”, he declared. Are these new cups a threat to Christmas?
Aficionados of the brand are familiar with Starbucks’ holiday cups which include pictures that are representative of Christmas including reindeer, ornaments, carolers, etc. “But neither have the Christian responses, which have roundly condemned “these people” who want to put Christ back in Starbucks, because they haven’t bothered to see if (these people) actually exist”. “So when I get in, I asked for my coffee, they asked for my name and I told them my name is Merry Christmas”, said Feuerstein.
A few religious conservatives have expressed anger over the coffee company’s annual holiday-time cups – a minimalist all-red design with no images aside from the company’s green and white logo.
As other commentators have noted, Starbucks still sells a Christmas blend and a Merry Christmas gift card.
“The evolution to the pure red cup is brilliant”.
“In the past, we have told stories with our holiday cups designs”.
Demi Lovato took to Twitter to give the company’s vice president of Design & Content, Jeffrey Fields an idea that could resolve the backlash.
