Trump calls Putin interference unlikely on Russian TV
“As you know, former CNN superstar Larry King has a podcast and Mr. Trump went on his podcast”.
Speaking to CBS, campaign manager Kellyanne Conway said that Trump “was doing it as a favor to his friend Larry King”.
Trump, who has faced backlash from both parties in recent days for praising Russian President Vladimir Putin, was interviewed by Larry King, a veteran American journalist whose show airs Thursday evenings on RT America, the US partner of a network originally called Russia Today. “I mean, they’ll take a statement that you make, which is flawless, and they’ll cut it up and chop it up and shorten it or lengthen it, or do something with it, then all of a sudden, it doesn’t look like as good as it did when you actually said it”. “You know, who knows?” “What Larry King does with the interview content is up to him, we have nothing to do with it”.
Putin has offered kind words for Trump in the past as well.
Paul Ryan doesn’t share the same warm thoughts toward Russian President Vladimir Putin that Donald Trump expressed during NBC’s Commander-in-Chief Forum on Wednesday night. “If someone says that they want to work with Russian Federation, we’ll welcome it”, Putin told Bloomberg.
Asked during the RT America interview what has surprised him most about the political process, Trump unloaded on the American press.
“I think when he calls me ‘brilliant, ‘ I’ll take the compliment”, he told moderator Matt Lauer. “I have absolutely no opinion on that”.
She also clarified Trump’s comments on Putin the day before, in which Trump called Putin a stronger leader than Obama in his country.
He said the Russian president is “really very much of a leader”.
“We are ready to work with any president, but, of course-I also said this-to the extent that the future administration is ready. The man has very strong control over a country”, Trump said. “I mean, nobody wants to play the full clip”. The Trump campaign insists that it was not aware that King would air the interview during his show Politicking. “It is beyond one’s imagination to have a candidate for president praising a Russian autocrat like Vladimir Putin”.
