Trump Campaign Chair Paul Manafort Resigns
Manafort, 67, has been an outspoken part of Trump’s campaign, but in the past week, had his role shifted from campaign manager to campaign chairman with the promotion of veteran pollster Kellyanne Conway to campaign manager and Breitbart News’ Steve Bannon to campaign CEO.
Trump said in a statement that he was appreciative of Manafort’s work on his campaign and called him a “true professional”.
“Paul Manafort got him to the convention and [helped] bring those delegates to the magic number he had to have to be the nominee”, said Huckabee. He won a power struggle with campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, who left the campaign in June. But his efforts to rein in some of Trump’s most controversial tendencies were seen as a failure.

The continued shake-up of the Trump campaign comes as recent polls have shown the real estate tycoon trailing Hillary Clinton nationally and in several key swing states. Its first television ads of the general election went up Friday, about two months after Clinton began airing general-election ads.
Trump’s son, Eric Trump, said unflattering headlines about Manafort were taking a toll. When previously asked if Paul Manafort would remain in his position, Trump had confirmed that he would.
Manafort proved to be an inspired hire at the time.
One such transaction, the newspaper reported, involved an $18 million cable television deal put together by Manafort.
The Associated Press reported Manafort’s connection to the lobbying effort Wednesday. The largest single payment was $3.5 million.
“I think my father didn’t want to be, you know, distracted by, you know, whatever things that, you know, Paul was dealing with”, he told Fox News.
In recent years, Manafort served as senior advisor to former President Viktor Yanukovych of Ukraine, who was ousted in 2014 after rejecting a treaty with the European Union in favor of closer ties with Russian Federation.
On Thursday, the AP reported that it had obtained emails revealing further details: Gates directed an unregistered influence campaign that included attempts to gain positive press coverage for Ukrainian officials, sway US legislators, gather political intelligence and undercut American public sympathy for the imprisoned rival of Ukraine’s then-president.
Paul Manafort and his deputy, Rick Gates, never disclosed their work as foreign agents as required under federal law. CNN reports that Trump announced Manafort’s resignation in a statement today.
