Trump celebrates the return to TV of Roseanne and ‘people like us’
“So, it was just a friendly conversation about work, and you know, television and ratings”.
The unexpected success even caught the attention of President Trump, who counts star and executive producer Roseanne Barr as one of his supporters and dialed her up to personally deliver his congratulations.
Trump often talks or tweets about shows’ ratings, sometimes comparing them to when he was on “The Apprentice”. “But Roseanne Barr knew Donald Trump personally for 30 years and saw how he treated women”. And he exclaimed, “Look at her ratings!”
The two-part premiere was watched by 18.2 million total viewers, making it the most-watched scripted program on ABC since 2008. This made it the most popular comedy launch to happen in four years. Presidential preferences, however, won’t figure much into the rest of the season as the Conners face off in stories involving the opioid crisis, immigration and the everyday hassles of trying to make a living.
They began asking themselves which audiences they were not serving well and what they could do to better live up to the company name – the American Broadcasting Company.
“Of course the President was smart to hitch himself to the show after it blew up”. The ABC source said there’s no downside to having Trump talking about the series. She played Stacy Flagler, a waitress who attracts the attention of Galecki’s character, David. “He really understands ratings and how they measure things and that’s kind of been an interest of mine, too, for a long time”. “Because now things are worse”.
“Not on the real news”, Roseanne responded.
Barr then proceeded to argue for what Trump has accomplished thus far during his presidency.
“She’s risky and demented and the success of the show will only help to embolden her, increase and normalize her platform”.
“I’m still the same. #Roseanne is getting another season!” the tweet said. Roseanne voted for Trump while Jackie still stood staunchly in Hillary Clinton’s corner. “That isn’t an accurate depiction of Trump voters”.
