Trump Clarifies Remarks On Muslim Database
Sanders called the statement “outrageous and bigoted”.
But another factor in Cruz’s rise in this poll might be his recent vocal opposition and subsequent legislation to ban allowing Syrian refugees onto American soil following the Paris terrorist attacks. The candidate did not take a stance but raised concerns about Muslims in the United States.
Trump, interviewed by NBC News after a campaign appearance in Iowa on Thursday night, was asked if there should be a database to monitor Muslims in the US.
Other candidates pushed back against Trump’s comments.
According to Maddow, Trump’s views are vague and inconsist “not Donald Trump saying, ‘No, I wouldn’t support keeping a list of all the Muslims in America, so we can keep an eye on them.’ I mean, right?” He was not asked specifically if he disavowed a general registry for Muslims living in the country, and he did not condemn the idea on his own. His periodic eruptions have seemed to power his campaign; he has denigrated Senator John McCains record in Vietnam because he was a prisoner of war, saying that the Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly was bleeding from wherever, insulted Carly Fiorinas looks and read Senator Lindsey Grahams cellphone number aloud before a crowd of thousands.
Update 11/21 6:48 EST: After news of the protester’s ejection went viral, video emerged showing a number of Trump supporters attacking the man. He was punched by one man and kicked by another woman as he was lying on the ground.
They also criticized Trump rival Ben Carson, who on Thursday compared blocking potential terrorists posing as Syrian refugees from entering the U.S.to handling a rabid dog. “A few really bad things are happening and they’re happening fast”.
“Should there be a database system that tracks Muslims here in this country?” the NBC reporter asks.
Interviewer: I’m with NBC News. Asked if there should be a database system for tracking Muslims in the United States, he said: “There should be a lot of systems, beyond databases”.
Trump said Saturday “it doesn’t matter” if he couldn’t hear the question posed to him on Thursday, “but I do want databases for those people coming in, but I also insist on the wall, and it was all fine”. By the time this piece ran, Trump had already shot down the DC Media’s scurrilous, provable 24 hour lie.
Bush called them “just wrong”.
Trump also told the reporter that Muslims would “have to be” registered and said that the registration process could occur at “different places”.
Republican candidates also slammed Trump. There may be other candidates who want to do that. You’re talking about closing mosques.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim Hooper, spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said Trump and Carson, have participated in the mainstreaming of anti-Muslim sentiment.
But he retreated quickly Friday morning, posting a note on his Twitter page that said: “I didn’t suggest a database – a reporter did”. That ought to alarm every American.
