Trump, Clinton are unpopular; will voters stay home?
The margin of error is plus or minus 3.3 points in Florida, North Carolina and Virginia, and 3.5 points for Colorado. Two of these polls were conducted online, using panels that were recruited by traditional mail or telephone surveys, one was conducted by phone.
An institute poll in April found Clinton favored by 61 percent of likely millennial voters, and Trump 25 percent. Last month’s shooting at Pulse, a popular LGBT nightclub in Orlando, Florida, provided Trump a temporary boost in certain polls.
While the Times/CBS poll shows a tie race, other polls have shown Clinton with a small, but consistent lead.
In the WSJ/NBC Marist surveys, both candidates are slowed by steadfastly high unfavorable ratings, with significant majorities in all four states saying they have negative views of Clinton and Trump.
“These actions are not consistent with our values”, said Clinton. Clinton will not be brought up on charges, but she may have lost the trust of former supporters and voters that were previously undecided.
Mr Kaine is widely seen as the “safe choice” to become Hillary Clinton’s vice-presidential running mate, and that may be the biggest mark against him. Younger adults view tweeting as appropriate for politicians, older adults do not. Even so, both Clinton and Trump are viewed unfavorably by many Millennials, with almost as many respondents remaining undecided as favor Trump.
He also used Trump’s words about women, Muslims and Latinos as an indictment. This poll also shows Trump up 43-41 percent in Pennsylvania; and in all-important OH, the two are in a dead heat at 41-41.
Eighty percent of Trump supporters and three-quarters of Clinton backers say a major reason for their support is opposition to the other candidate. Maybe even people you work with have been railing against Crooked Hillary Clinton or figuring out where in Canada they can resettle should Donald Trump emerge victorious. The same percentage say the candidate’s personal characteristics are extremely important to them.
Clinton’s and Trump’s standings declined amid questions about her email practices as secretary of state and his comments about minority groups and whether he seemed presidential in the aftermath of the Orlando massacre and the British vote to leave the European Union.
While both Democrats and Republicans are upset with their candidates, Democrats still feel as though Clinton represents the values of their party.
On the Republican side is Donald Trump – businessman and former reality-TV star.
The New York Times/CBS News poll was conducted July 8-12.
Ironically, Clinton appears to lose more support to Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson than Trump does.
