Trump, Clinton campaign managers hash out election at forum
Three weeks after the election, top staffers from Hillary Clinton’s and Donald Trump’s presidential campaigns met at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government to discuss what happened during the campaign.
Aides on both sides traded insults, interrupted each other and bemoaned several aspects of each campaign’s strategy. There was lots of eye-rolling on both sides.
President-elect Donald Trump’s campaign manager revealed on December 2 that Trump may still appoint law enforcement officials to investigate Hillary Clinton.
Although it’s been nearly a month since Donald Trump won the presidential election over top rival Hillary Clinton, negative feelings on both sides have not yet dissipated. “He was the better candidate – he won”.
Conway shot back: “Hey guys”.
“Is that the playbook you used on taxes?” asked campaign manager Robby Mook, citing Trump’s decision not to release his tax returns. Obama’s aides said he does not take back his critique of Trump but that he is determined to focus on a smooth transfer of power to the new administration. “How about, she doesn’t have an economic message?” Conway said. “How about it’s Hillary Clinton?”. Bannon has denied being a white nationalist and members of the Trump team have defended him. Mook said the “post-factual” nature of the election also contributed to Clinton’s loss, accusing Breitbart and Bannon of playing a role in disseminating it.
CONWAY: Excuse me, she said white supremacist.
“But to your question”, Conway continued, “the president-elect has been talking to different people including Kris Kobach, [secretary of state] of Kansas, about voting irregularities or the number of illegal votes that may have been cast, and I believe that he bases his information on that”. “We can not have foreign, and I would say foreign aggressors here, intervening in our elections”.
“You did Kellyanne, you did”, Palmieri said.
Yet in an interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America”, Kellyanne Conway implied the issue is still one Trump has not totally shifted on.
Clinton adviser Mandy Grunwald said the Trump campaign had operated in the world of “dark arts”.
During the election postmortem, Conway blamed Clinton’s defeat on her own flaws. “Hey guys, we won – there’s no need to respond”, Conway said.
This country has a problem with fake news, and unfortunately, the most prominent person sharing it is our president-elect, Donald Trump. But with the Trump and Clinton teams face to face, and with the weight of history being written, it turned ugly fast. Two conclusions might be drawn from the results.
Trump said a year ago that “thousands and thousands of people were cheering” in Jersey City, N.J. when the World Trade Center fell on September 11, 2011.
They chanted ‘Lock her up!
“She’s been an uncomfortable presence for a long time” by breaking gender barriers, Palmieri said.
Conway accused Clinton’s team of being sore losers.
President-elect Donald Trump’s choice of Steve Bannon as senior advisor has drawn widespread criticism. She said Trump has called for an end to such incidents, and she labeled the center an “anti-Trump group“.
While the Campaign Managers Conferences have been known to be quite revealing in the past, they typically remain civil. They also acknowledged that they did not perform as well as they needed to among younger voters; one key reason for that, they said, was Comey’s interference in the election.
