Trump does believe in climate change, says United Nations envoy
The governors of California, New York and Washington, all Democrats, launched the coalition Thursday after Trump said he would withdraw the United States from the Paris accord, saying its terms are not fair and predicting major job losses because of the agreement.
The day after President Donald Trump announced the US will withdraw from the Paris Agreement, it seemed White House officials were tasked with keeping the president’s actual stance on climate change frustratingly ambiguous.
India is the world’s third-biggest emitter of greenhouse gases that cause global warming.
President Donald Trump does believe the world climate is changing and humans bear some responsibility, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said in an interview on Saturday.
The Paris agreement, which consists of individual greenhouse gas limits from almost 200 nations, is not designed for participation from parties other than national governments.
Since Trump’s announcement, many mayors and governors have been stepping forth to declare their continued commitment to fighting climate change. “I am sure the U.S. will rethink its decision”, he said.
Some countries such as Ethiopia said Trump’s decision would make things harder for the least developed nation, but there were no plans for anyone to quit the Paris pact.
Announcing his decision to withdraw from the Paris deal, Trump had alleged that India and China have been left accountable in the agreement. The agreement also established a $100 billion fund to help vulnerable countries deal with the effects of climate change.
Ms. Haley last week also defended the president’s views on climate change.
Former Secretary of State John Kerry had an interesting analogy when asked about the possibility of President Donald Trump renegotiating the Paris Agreement – O.J. Simpson’s claim that he would find the person who he said murdered his wife in 1994. “So to put us in that category is not a real assumption”, she said.
Scott Pruitt, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency who is a well-known climate skeptic, said on Fox News that “the president has indicated that the climate changes”.
