Trump fires back at Cruz
“Just like Ben Carson, Marco Rubio and Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and Bob Vander Plaats would deny gay couples the ability to marry, restrict a woman’s access to health care, and pursue xenophobic policies that only strengthen terrorist organizations overseas”, he said. Trump and not Front-Runner With Lots of Money Trump, Cruz, it’s not hard to imagine, would be fileting Trump for his shifting positions on issues from taxes to abortion. Unlike most of the GOP presidential field, Cruz has also consistently refused to criticize Trump even as the billionaire businessman ignited multiple national firestorms with provocative comments and policy proposals.
Vander Plaats stressed that this was a personal endorsement, not one on behalf of the Family Leader, the influential Christian conservative group he leads. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, addresses the Sunshine Summit in Orlando, Fla., Friday Nov. 13, 2015.
“I’ve heard for a month that he seems to have a pretty-good plan to get faithful people to come to the caucuses”, he said.
“The Second Amendment is not the enemy”, Cruz said.
“I’ll tell you, you have one of the most dishonest right here in your backyard: The Des Moines Register is the worst”, he said to cheers and applause.
Citing the recent attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, Calif., Cruz disputed the administration’s description of the attackers as “lone wolves”, saying instead: “These wolves are not alone – they are instead operating in ideological packs”.
During wide-ranging comments, the GOP frontrunner took swipes at Democrats Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama, charging that Clinton has “committed a crime, in my opinion”, and is being protected by the president and Democrats. When asked whether the two Senators could win a general election, both Republicans and non-Republicans are more likely to view Rubio as a possible victor than to say Cruz could win.
“Maybe I’m wrong about this, but I have enough faith in the Republican primary electorate that they will select a talented politician over a talented demagogue”. “If I’m two votes short, I have a problem”.
“He’s running and I’m running and we both agreed that we started out as friends and we’ll end as friends”, Cruz said in July.
“I think Trump’s got it right”, she said, noting she has attended two political rallies in her lifetime – both Trump events this year. “But I think we’re going to do great, we are doing great with Evangelicals”. He doesn’t want to alienate Trump’s voters, who he thinks will largely come his way eventually. “It sounds like he’s honest”.
Cruz also explained his strategy to beat the outsider candidates.
Also like Trump, Cruz markets himself as a government outsider. In fact, he’s only gotten stronger. This is campaign speak for “Choose me”. Who understands the threats we face?’
Outside the rally, about a dozen Iowans gathered to protest Trump’s appearance in Iowa while one man briefly disrupted the rally inside the fairgrounds’ building. He’s the backup choice for 49% of Trump supporters. He certainly loses if any of the social conservative factional candidates stay in and run well; and he probably loses a three-candidate contest with Trump and Rubio, Bush, Kasich or Christie.
