Trump introduces Gov Pence as ‘my partner in this campaign’
There were no “Trump-Pence” signs in the room, which appeared dark and somewhat subdued on television. Pence did so while suggesting Hillary Clinton’s policy proposals would weaken the nation’s economy and its security. He came back for a photo with their families at the end of the governor’s remarks. Trump is not scheduled to join him. Two Republicans with knowledge of the process said he felt boxed in by advisers and other Republicans who preferred Pence over the two other finalists, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. When Trump did mention Pence, he said, “One of the big reasons I chose Mike is party unity, I have to be honest”.
He said Pence would stand up to America’s enemies and that he and the governor represent “the law-and-order candidates” at home. “I think it shows an understanding of an electorate and an understanding of what it takes to defeat Hillary Clinton”, Priebus said.
He brags that they’ve been “crushed”.
Trump said his Democratic rival Clinton would pay the price of her email scandal in the November general elections.
Trump had originally planned on announcing his VP on Thursday, but after the attack in Nice he postponed the event. The campaign was making plans for a splashy Friday announcement aimed at dominating the weekend news cycle heading into the Republican convention. He reiterated that he would get tough with radical Islamic terrorism.
“I am here to introduce the man who will be my partner in the campaign and in the White House to fix the rigged system”, Trump said from a Hilton hotel in New York City.
The convention hits at a politically volatile time in New Jersey: Christie has stopped transportation projects over a disagreement about how to pay for the transportation trust fund; a top former appointee and mentor pleaded guilty Thursday to federal bribery charges for using his role as chairman of the Port Authority of NY and New Jersey for personal gain; and the George Washington Bridge lane closure case is headed for court in September.
The Republican Jewish Coalition’s relationship with presumptive nominee Donald Trump is … complicated. He said he would champion “law and order” in the wake of this week’s terror attack in France.
Pence, standing alone in front of ten American flags, hewed closely to the populist themes that Trump has voiced on the campaign trail, describing himself as “really just a small-town boy”.
Trump ticked off a few of Pence’s accomplishments in Indiana: Lowering unemployment, earning a triple-A bond rating and increasing education funding.
Donald Trump has finally hired someone he can’t fire. “Always Divisive. Not so Decisive”. Trump himself will not be in attendance, according to the campaign’s website. But the Republican National Committee (RNC) and the Trump campaign teamed up to quash the “Never Trump” forces.
Ultimately, Trump’s decision to go with Pence was at least a partial concession to those in his inner circle – choosing someone that would help balance him out, both in terms of temperament and skills.
Christie told Michigan’s Republican delegation in Ohio Monday that Mary Pat Christie asked the billionaire businessman for a donation and he responded, “How much does the check need to be?”
The day after Sandy, Trump extended the deadline for an offer to make $5 million in donations if President Barack Obama made all of his school and passport records public. The two men appeared together just briefly.
Trump bragged that an effort to block his path to the nomination at the Republican National Convention had recently failed.
The delegates from Wyoming, the District of Columbia and Washington state might want to bring binoculars. Because the state’s primary took place after the race was decided and per the state GOP’s rules, all 172 California delegates support Trump and were chosen by his campaign. Oddly, competitive battleground states Colorado and Virginia are in the back. “Donald Trump understands the frustrations and the hopes of the American people like no leader since Ronald Reagan”.
