Trump Is Exaggerating His Wealth — Forbes Confirms It
Bezos’ jump of $16.5 billion over the past year was the biggest uptick for anyone on the list, Forbes said, adding that several technology-company chieftains benefited from a notable rise in wealth, at least into early September. 119 top-listers have faired relatively low this year as compared to last year.
According to Forbes itself, entering the prestigious catalogue this year required a whopping earning of $1.7 billion. The average net worth of list members is at a record high of $5.8 billion.
Gains were especially visible among the startup tech sector, debuting new faces such Evan Spiegel, the CEO of Snapchat, who is also the youngest to make the list at just 25 years old. Larry Ellison, chairman of business software firm Oracle, comes in at number three, with a net worth of $47.5 billion.
But don’t blame Trump for wanting to obscure his true worth: It turns out that most billionaires on the list do the same thing. His friend Warren Buffett, chief executive of Berkshire Hathaway, occupies the number two spot on The 400 (he’s been ensconced there since 2001), with a net worth of $62 billion.
The magazine s annual list of the 400 Richest Americans included 39 people, almost one in 10, who own a majority interest in a USA sports league team.
In percentage terms, Travis Kalanick, founder of ride-hailing service Uber, gained the most, doubling his fortune since a year ago to $6 billion.
Forbes’ asset tabulations, through September 11, reflect most of the stock market’s recent swoon, which intensified in late August. Stanley Kroenke, who owns the St. Louis Rams, Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets, rounds out the top five at $7.6 billion.
Lane’s article for Forbes extensively chronicled Trump’s alleged “fibbing” over his net worth, and the developer has apparently never been happy with the numbers assigned to him in the magazine’s regular accounting of the richest of the rich. “We think that’s factored into the deals he already cuts, so as a policy we do not count that”. And women are really struggling to make the list. Schulze, 74, is rated 8 as a self-made man. Forbes said he has sold 15 percent of his Best Buy shares in the past year.
These seven Arizonans are included in this year’s Forbes 400 list of wealthiest Americans.
