Trump leads GoP race
Ted Cruz, R-Texas, speaks…
In an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union”, Kasich, a Republican presidential candidate, said he isn’t buying polls that show Trump in the lead – including a new CNN/ORC poll that puts the real estate mogul’s support at 36%, more than double any other contender, among Republicans. All other candidates have the support of less than 5% of GOP voters in the race for the Republican Party’s nomination for president.
Carson, whose woeful performances while speaking on foreign policy has led more people to question his viability, has fallen 10 points to 14 percent after essentially being tied with Trump since late summer.
Several other recent polls have shown Trump reclaiming a solid lead atop the Republican field after several weeks of near parity with Carson, CNN noted. They also tend to be less educated, most without college degrees, and less affluent, most making less than $50,000 per year.
“It doesn’t seem to matter what he says or who he offends, whether the facts are contested or the “political correctness” is challenged, Donald Trump seems to be wearing Kevlar”, Quinnipiac assistant poll director Tim Malloy said in a news release detailing the results. “If they stay fractured, then they may very well have to deal with the November consequences of a Trump nomination-and that won’t be pretty”.
Trump was quickly assailed after that comment by rival candidate Sen. His messages of blaming the Chinese for trade problems, illegal immigrants for (rape, drugs) and the taking of American jobs, and Muslims for destabilizing the world and United States national security have resonated among those who fear for their jobs and their futures, their country and the American way of life (as they see it).
