Trump Likely to End DACA Immigrant Program
Tuesday scores of those Dreamers – small children brought to the U.S.by parents who entered the country illegally – gathered under gray skies and drizzle in Lafayette Square across from the White House to urge President Donald Trump to continue the Obama-era protection.
The Department of Homeland Security sent a recommendation to the White House earlier this week on how to process on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, the officials said. A group of state attorneys general threatened him with legal action if he does not rescind DACA by September 5, and Trump administration officials won’t say whether they would defend the program should it go to court. Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals – a program Obama introduced that shields illegal immigrants from deportation and temporarily gives them permits to work and study in the USA, so long as they arrived as children. Around 200,000 young people have sought DACA status since Trump became president, immigrant rights groups say.
To get the border wall, President Donald Trump plans to disregard another major pledge to the voters: Getting rid of President Barack Obama’s amnesty for illegal immigrants brought to the U.S.as children.
Serrano noted a recent joint letter calling for an end to DACA spearheaded by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, nine other state attorneys general and the governor of Idaho.

A decision on DACA could be expedited due to an imminent legal challenge from the states.

Members of several indivisible organizations presented a resolution on behalf of 47 indivisible and immigrant rights organizations, representing thousands of activists from across Washington state, to the offices of Representative Jayapal, Senator Cantwell, and Senator Murray.
“It would mean the world to me and my family”, she said. Although the vast majority still remain supportive, dealing with illegal immigration was the biggest issue he took up during the 2016 presidential campaign.
The campaign to defend DACA began in earnest at the start of the year.
