Trump makes historic visit to Western Wall

At US President Donald Trump’s request, Israel decides to improve Palestine’s economy and facilitate crossings.
Netanyahu said the Israeli people “applaud” the US president for making the trip.
One of the larger protests on Monday took place in Qalandiya, north of Jerusalem, where approximately 100 Palestinians took part in the violent demonstration, throwing rocks and rolling burning tires at IDF troops, the army said. He didn’t elaborate on the more delicate question: whether the administration would change USA policy over the status of Jerusalem.

The Western Wall is in Jerusalem’s Old City, on the perimeter of what Jews refer to as the Temple Mount.
Earlier, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told reporters that no apology would be forthcoming following Trump’s disclosure of highly classified Israeli intelligence regarding ISIS to Russian Federation.
“We protect the Christians sites like no one else in this region, we are committed to all protecting all faiths and the rights of all”, Netanyahu added.
Many Israelis remarked that the president’s visit implicitly affirmed Israel’s claim to the site, though Trump has made no public statement to that effect. The Palestinians seek east Jerusalem as the capital of a future independent state. After a campaign filled with stridently pro-Israel statements and a pledge to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Trump has moderated his Israel support since taking office.
“We as Mexicans have Trump as our neighbour and now he is following us here as well”, he laughed to AFP, with Trump having pledged to build a wall between the United States and Mexico during his campaign.

Trump and his wife, Melania, were greeted on the tarmac by the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli President, Reuven Rivlin, and both their wives.
Trump promised during his campaign to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and move the United States embassy in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, but has since backed off that pledge – at least for now.
White House spokesman Sean Spicer, later asked about McMaster’s comments, said “It’s clearly in Jerusalem”.
Palestinians, who viewed Trump’s victory with some trepidation, are said to have been pleasantly surprised by Trump’s openness during a meeting with Abbas in Washington recently.
