Trump meets former USA vice president Al Gore over climate change
Trump also met Monday with Robert McFarland, who served as the former national security advisor for President Ronald Reagan in the mid-1980s.
Gore had been scheduled to meet only with Trump’s daughter about his signature issue, climate change.
While Trump has said he’ll pull out of the Paris Agreement and cancel all USA donations to United Nations climate change programmes, Ivanka is including it as one of her signature issues, Politico has reported. In the fight against human-caused climate change he is one of the best known crusaders.
Trump also referred to human-induced climate change as a hoax and had tweeted that “the concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make USA manufacturing non-competitive”.
She added, “During the campaign, Gore said Trump’s position could lead to a climate catastrophe”. Assistants to Trump gave no further knowledge into Monday’s meeting.

The meeting may not be the strangest thing that has come out of the Trump transition process. In an interview with The Guardian published on the same day, he urged climate activists to shift their attentions toward working with Trump rather than lament his election. They’re friends enough – not to mention DiCaprio has enough clout – that Ivanka agreed to meet with him to discuss environmental issues.
“We must empower leaders who not only believe in climate change but are willing to do something about it”, he said.
But fretting about the outcome of the November presidential election isn’t doing the planet any favors, cautions former vice-president Al Gore.
According to CNN, reporters were told by the President-elect’s spokesman Jason Miller climate issues were going to be discussed but there were no details on specifics.
The only time Ivanka spoke publicly about climate change was this tweet from 2010. “Let me say that the objective here is to create a process that we can trust”.
The previous surgeon, who does not have any expertise in government, is Mr Trump’s first African American nominee.
Trump’s previous remarks about allies needing to contribute more to support the US military presence overseas has stoked concern in Japan about the incoming administration’s commitment to the Asia-Pacific region.
