Trump meets with black pastors
Amid reports of the planned meeting, a separate group of black pastors asked their colleagues to reconsider.
‘I saw it. So many people saw it. And, so, why would I take it back?
“Every time I pick up a phone, I assume people are listening to my conversations”, Trump said.
The billionaire also said people were reaching out on social media, telling him in person at campaign rallies and calling the Trump Organization, saying, ‘We saw it. It was dancing in the streets’. “So what I think happened is a lot of pressure was put on him”.
“What theology do you believe Mr. Trump possesses when his politics are so clearly anti-Black?” said the letter, which was one of the the milder rebukes aimed at the group.
But there were some tensions going into the meeting. “It didn’t go longer for other reasons”. “I don’t like it, but I have to make that assumption”.
Trump “said we had no interest in being involved in Syria”. And up until this weekend, the claim coming from Trump HQ was that the candidate, constantly under fire for being one of the most racially divisive political figures from a major party in years, was about to get the ringing endorsement of those African-American faith leaders. He implied that there had been confusion about the original goal of the meeting and what will now be discussed. Rather than condemn the violence, the real estate mogul said that perhaps the person “should have been roughed up”.
Shocking that promoting “all lives matter” on a day when cops in both Baltimore and Chicago are on trial for killing black people would be reasonable fodder to shy away from him. White lives are very important. I’ll tell you, I have a very good memory.
Dr. Victor Couzens of the Inspirational Baptist Church, from Forest Park, Ohio, arrives at Trump Tower in New York, Monday, Nov. 30, 2015.
But he’s determined to impose increased surveillance on the nation’s Muslims and hasn’t ruled out warrantless searches or shutting down mosques in the event “bad things” happen.
“Mr. Trump will host a private, informational meet and greet with many members of the Coalition of African American Ministers at Trump Tower after which a number of attendees are expected to endorse Mr. Trump”, the new advisory stated. He also expressed reservations about what he considers Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric. I would really much err on the side of security.
“You want stories, you want controversy”.
Several of the pastors who were invited to meet with the GOP candidate declined their invitation or noted their attendance did not equal an endorsement.
“Donald Trump only feels big when he’s trying to make everyone else look small”, she said.
