Trump on an Endorsement from Cruz: ‘I will Not Accept it’
“Folks, a lot of us are political people”, Trump said.
Trump became the official nominee on July 19.
The party chair, Reince Priebus, called Trump the presumptive nominee on May 3.
“I don’t want his endorsement”, he added.
Cruz said he couldn’t endorse someone who attacked his wife and father. “So Ted Cruz took his speech and was done…then made a statement that wasn’t in the speech…to me that’s dishonorable”.
“Wow, Ted Cruz got booed off the stage, didn’t honour the pledge! I met him once”, Trump said. As Senator he has continuously broken ranks with the party to pursue extreme agendas, accusing the Republican congressional leadership of being part of the “corrupt Washington nexus”.
But Trump appeared to dispute that on Friday morning, saying Cruz went off-script at the convention.
As the drama prompted by Mr. Cruz’s speech overwhelmed the coverage of the convention, former Speaker Newt Gingrich, who spoke later, offered to paraphrase the Senator. Cruz is betting that the big loser will be Trump, while Trump, who has always found targets on which to shove the blame for failed enterprises, can simply point to this speech should the time come.

Which leaves the stakes for Trump’s speech extremely high. Trump’s fundraising numbers were way down in May, but did much better in June. “He’s bold and brash, and he’s willing to speak the truth”. That’s when a Trump speechwriter, showing the campaign’s earlier denials had been false, acknowledged that she put Obama’s words into the speech, if inadvertently after Melania read them to her. The animosity continues as events proved on Wednesday.
