Trump on Cruz: “A Little Bit of a Maniac”
While most excoriated Donald Trump for his proposal last week to ban Muslims from entering the United States, one rival Republican was unusually careful in his rejection of the plan: Ted Cruz.
His rise came at the expense of retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, who dropped to third with 13 percent in the poll, while US Senator Marco Rubio of Florida hovered at 10 percent.
Onetime presumed frontrunner Jeb Bush – son of one president and brother to another – has a measly six percent support, while all the other candidates have less than three percent support.
Throughout the election season, Cruz has been notably missing from Trump’s public assessments of his competition, and the pair have been collegial opponents.
If Trump were in power, I’m sure all the Muslims in this country would end up losing everything they own and living in internment camps just like the Japanese Americans during World War II.
“Trump voters may skew toward a lower educational level, but it’s important to keep in mind that he draws support from significant segments of every voting bloc”, said Murray.
Donald Trump has crossed the 40 percent threshold in a new national poll, giving the Republican presidential candidate the largest lead he’s held in any survey so far. If you’re a Trump critic, cling tightly to that Selzer poll this weekend that had Cruz up 10 there. Some of it must be from Carson supporters who are peeling off, but that doesn’t explain all of it (especially since Cruz must also be picking up Carson supporters). “People are looking for who is prepared to be a commander in chief”.
Iowa’s numbers could be more meaningful than the national numbers because there is a caucus happening in the state on February 1.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney lost the 2012 race with only 27 percent of the Hispanic vote. “When you look at the way he has dealt with the Senate, where he goes in there like a, you know, frankly, like a little bit of a maniac – you are never going to get things done that way”. “Tremendous television show called the Apprentice that lasted 14 seasons, and by NBC came – they would beg me to do it again, as you can imagine and I said no, and they are going to sign, they signed Arnold Schwarzenegger”.
Among all other Republican voters, though, 55% say Trump’s temperament is not a good fit for the presidency compared to 43% who feel it is.
The candidates appeared to take notice of Cruz’s big gains, as he was the focus of their attacks on the Sunday morning news shows. A Fox News poll gave Cruz a 28 percent-to-26 percent edge. McConnell denied that. Trump suggested that Cruz’s approach would impair his effectiveness.
