Trump on ‘lock her up’ chant: ‘I’m starting to agree’
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump speaks during a campaign rally, at the Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum, in Denver, Friday, July 29, 2016. “Every time I mention her, everyone screams, ‘Lock her up, lock her up, ‘” Trump said.
Trump skipped a Republican primary debate because he was angry at a line of questioning by Fox News’ Megyn Kelly and former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell said during the Democratic National Convention that he was skeptical that Trump would participate in the debates. “I’ve been very nice to her”.
Last night, Donald Trump complained on Twitter about the timing of two of the upcoming presidential debates. But I can think of no precedent, whatsoever, for a national nominee who clearly does not know who the vice-presidential nominee on the other side is.
Lock her up! Lock her up!’ And you know what I do?
“I was curious to see whether she’d do a class act and not mention my name”, he said.
Trump said he was depicting the reporter groveling to him. Clinton did call Trump out several times during her speech – but the businessman also used his own acceptance speech to attack the former Senator.
She promises to focus on parts of the country that have been “left out and left behind” – constituencies where declining living standards, fears about safety and lost jobs have fuelled support for Mr Trump.
“I thought she might do something like that. I thought she’d give me a big, fat, attractive congratulations”, he said. If she did that, wouldn’t that be cool? “They’d never recover”, he said.
“They had a general named Allen”.
Recall how much trouble Rick Perry got in simply for forgetting, in the pressure of a debate, the name of one of the three federal departments he wanted to close. You know who he is?
But Trump, whose on-stage performances against his fellow Republicans were often mediocre, may be scared to debate Hillary Clinton, who excels in that arena. “Or mention it with respect, like, say, ‘I’d like to congratulate my Republican opponent for having done something that nobody has ever done in the history of politics in this nation'”.
“Hillary Clinton should not be given national security briefings in that she is a lose cannon with extraordinarily bad judgement & instincts”, he tweeted. He also suggested the Clinton campaign’s speechwriters had penned Khan’s speech.
“Even Bill Clinton is exhausted of the lies, SAD!” “Unacceptable!” Trump tweeted late Friday night.
