Trump on Meeting with Black Pastors: ‘I Saw Love in That Room’
Following the meeting Donald Trump had with the black pastors, he was pleased. “He did say at the conclusion of the meeting that he heard everything that we said”. “But I saw it on television, I saw clips, and so did many other people – and many people saw it in person”. “However, it’s probably going to be more than 100 that are going to be at this meeting”.
NEW YORK, New York (CNN) – Donald Trump enthusiastically emerged from a lengthy meeting with black pastors in New York City on Monday, defiantly dismissing criticism from some in the African-American community that he is espousing racist rhetoric. “I think they really want to see victory, because ultimately it is about, we want to win and we want to win together”. This forced the cancellation of the planned press conference and left Trump in an awkward spot. “Donald Trump is committed to the black community”, said Manigualt, a Democrat who worked for the Clinton White House.
When addressing the next GOP debate hosted by CNN in two weeks, Trump said he’s considering not participating because he doesn’t think the news outlet treats him fairly.
The Rev. Darrell Scott of the Ohio-based New Spirit Revival Center, a Trump supporter who organized Monday’s meeting, argued that there was no harm in sitting down and talking to the candidate.
Stressing his background as a successful real estate developer, Trump has campaigned on putting America back to work and bring jobs back home from overseas.
“I won’t do the debate unless they pay me 5 million dollars”, Trump said.
They also expressed concern that Monday’s gathering would “give Trump the appearance of legitimacy among those who follow your leadership and respect your position as clergy”.
Michael Cohen, vice president of The Trump Organization, told CNN’s “The Lead with Jake Tapper” that the original statement that the meeting would be an endorsement by all present was a misunderstanding between Scott and the campaign.
By Friday, some of those scheduled to attend the endorsement news conference said that they had not made up their minds about whether to support Trump. It was a jam-packed room, standing support for Mr. Trump.
In an earlier message on the social networking site she called Trump “an insult and embarrassment”. But wouldn’t it be bad: I’m leading the polls, I don’t do it, I play cute – because you’re playing cute, right? – it gets out I’m chicken, which I’m not.
It went longer because of the love. “My qualification was that day was a very emotional, personal day for me”.
Cohen also reiterated that his boss has been a regular contributor to organizations helping people with disabilities. “Which Black lives do you claim to be liberating”, the leaders wrote.
