Trump reiterates support for arming teachers, protecting 2nd Amendment

President Donald Trump is blaming ailing Republican Sen.
“We really do have to strengthen up, really strengthen up background checks”, said President Trump. We have a group of people that vote against us in a bloc.
“By the way, you don’t mind if I go off script a little bit, because, you know it’s sort of boring”, Trump said to an explosion of cheers and hollers from the crowd.
But early in his speech, Trump got a taste of what has followed him for more than a year. “Shame on conservatives! Shame on you”, a protester screamed while he was escorted out of the event.
From the podium, Trump then shouted each – “Second Amendment!”.
“Not surprised the NRA reeled President Trump back in”, Schumer said. “That will cost them in the midterms”.
Trump tells an annual gathering of conservative activists that few people are afforded the honor and “it’s a big thing”.
“And that’s what we’re doing with our country, folks”, President Trump said.
Trump told the crowd that Democrats will remove recent tax cuts on business and the Second Amendment – although no Democratic presidential nominee has called for revoking the Second Amendment.
Trump listed other, weightier issues, that frustrated him in a speech lasting more than an hour, which showed him in full-on campaign mode ahead of November’s congressional elections, in which Republicans risk losing control of Congress. “Then we get clobbered …”

HORSLEY: That’s right. But it’s worth remembering that CPAC was not always this president’s crowd or Donald Trump’s crowd before he was president.
The long speech saw Trump often defend his “America First” policies, and he boasted that he stood up to global leaders. “I’m here to hear the White House out”, Murphy said. “We have massive energy reserves”.
“Why do we protect our airports, our banks, our government buildings but not our schools?”
Trump denounced the attack at a high school in Parkland, Florida, on February 16. He doubled down on teachers carrying concealed weapons, saying that would have stopped the Parkland Florida shooting tragedy.
The Connecticut senator became an outspoken advocate for more gun restrictions after the 2012 elementary school shooting in Sandy Hook. Clearly, the public is on board for action of some variety: in a new CBS News poll, almost two-thirds of Americans said they supported stricter laws on gun sales, up eight percentage points from December, and the rise has come primarily from Republicans and independents.
Trump said many school employees were trained with guns in the military. The President spoke about the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting that killed 17 high school students.
“We imposed today the heaviest sanctions ever imposed on a country before”, Trump said. “I work hard at it”.
Responding to something shouted from the audience, he assured them the U.S. -Mexico border wall will be built.
The next day, Trump was on stage praising the NRA.
But beyond the achievements of his young administration, Trump talked about the values that make America what it is. And I said to our people, don’t use the word reform because they are were going to go with the tax reform act, and I said no wonder for 45 years nothing’s been passed … The crowd roared loudest for the Second Amendment.
