Trump’s Attacks Backfire As Bob Woodward’s ‘Fear’ Gets 1 Million Copy Run
Trump Jr. also told ABC that he was not anxious about special counsel Robert Mueller’s sweeping probe into Russian election meddling and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.
Trump tweeted: ‘The Woodward book has already been refuted and discredited by General (Secretary of Defense) James Mattis and General (Chief of Staff) John Kelly. You just make things up, ‘ he adds.
That’s right, the deafening stomping sound you hear is The Big Grundle trying to walk back all those things he told Bob Woodward about how apocalyptically stupid and adolescent he found the current leader of the free world to be. “It’s either that or an orange jumpsuit”.
“I’m not thrilled”, he told CNBC’s Joe Kernen in a July interview.
“The fact that that’s actually being honestly discussed is ridiculous, and frankly it’s insulting” to the people who voted for Trump, Sanders said.
“Fear” is chock full of eye-popping scenes from the Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist, who has also written books about previous administrations. He left the White House earlier this year amid allegations of domestic abuse, which he has denied.
Woodward explains: McMaster, he says, “understood the strategic importance of India, a sworn enemy of Pakistan”.
Trump has attacked the book and author, calling it “fiction” and Woodward an “idiot”.
Former chief of staff Reince Priebus is described as “a little rat”, according to Woodward’s book. “I don’t talk the way I am quoted”, the president wrote on Twitter in one missive.
Having now read Bob Woodward’s Fear, I am struck by the selective and often misleading portrait it paints of the President and his administration. Their quotes were made up frauds, a con on the public. The author uses every trick in the book to demean and belittle. “But at the same time I’m letting them do what they feel is best”.
There were days or weeks when the operation worked, Woodward writes.
“Just run the presses – print money”, Trump said, according to Woodward.
“What is the contest in America other than the political contest?” “This is a war on truth by [Trump]”, Woodward claimed. “I’ve done the work”. While he said the book contained “inaccuracies”, as Axios reports, he wasn’t specific about what the book supposedly got wrong. “And Mattis goes on and says if we don’t keep these programs, which are very sensitive, the only deterrent program we have will be the nuclear option”.
And when one reporter asked how Trump could expect to win a credibility battle against Woodward – the Washington Post reporter who helped uncover the Watergate scandal and take down then-President Nixon – Sanders had a response ready.
