Trump’s dream of Mexican wall crumbles
Dezeen points out that the call for Trump’s campaign-promised border wall coincided with the president’s speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), in which he crowed that the wall was “way, way, way ahead of schedule”. -Mexican border that is supposed to keep thousands of people out will cost over $20 billion to enact. That does not mean CEMEX will help build the wall. This is standard cost-benefit analysis.
If Mr Trump is unable to make Mexico bear the costs of the wall – and its politicians have repeatedly committed not to – then the wall is expected to cost nearly $22 billion, or $170 per U.S. household.
“He didn’t say Mexico would pay for it”, Stephanopoulos interjected. “We’re building a wall”.
Trump is going to find it hard to get his budget through Congress.
Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto cancelled a planned visit to the White House last month over the border wall issue. It is bad enough to have Venezuela in the same hemisphere, but to have a country with that kind of government along our southern border would be very inconvenient, to say the least.
Trump has consistently said Mexico will ultimately pay for the new wall, while Mexican officials have firmly rejected that idea.
That’s because Cemex has a huge presence in the USA, with offices in Houston and NY. Migrants participate through clubs or federations duly registered at Mexican consulates in the US and other countries, and pool their remittances.
Can I Get a Good Deal on a Wall?
Many of those living along the border do not support the construction of a wall.
“The dishonest media is not reporting that any money spent, for the sake of speed, on building the Great Wall, will be paid back by Mexico”, Trump tweeted January 6.
“A new chapter of American Greatness is now beginning”.
