Trump’s Dubai real estate partner strips his image, name from luxury golf
The Dubai real estate firm Damac Properties, which is building a US$6 billion golf complex with Donald Trump, on Thursday stripped the property of his name and image amid a backlash over the USA presidential candidate’s proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the US. “And Trump is now encouraging them, this is what they want to hear”, Habtoor said. His statement that Muslims should be banned entering United States evoked sharp criticism not only in the USA but also around the world. The group did not give any details on the value of the contract. Fellow developers have praised Trump as a pioneer of what they call a almost risk-free business. Trump had a long-time deal with Damac Properties for his name and likeness to be put on the housing project and two golf courses in Dubai. The Trump International Golf Course sign that was displayed across the gate house in gold lettering on a stone wall was also pulled down and left lying on the sandy ground.
DAMAC drew a distinction between its partner’s business and political interests, but declined to say explicitly whether it was reconsidering the partnership. “I have done so much for Scotland, including building Trump International Golf Links, which has received the highest accolades, and is what many believe to be one of the greatest golf courses anywhere in the world”, the 69-year-old said. You have been warned, Mr. Donald Trump. The chain had been selling “luxury” Trump products, such as “bath accessories with mother of pearl and chrome detailing, along with luxurious, fashion forward jewellery boxes made of leather”.
By 2013, Trump’s hotel group announced the hiring of a Dubai-based executive to expand the brand throughout the Middle East, with an aim of having 30 hotels in the region by 2020, though so far none has emerged.
Trump has long identified the Middle East as a major growth market for his business.
The Financial Times estimates Trump earns at least $3.5 million a year from licensing agreements on just two of those properties.
The Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment.
“The supreme council expressed its deep concern at the increase of hostile, racist and inhumane rhetoric against refugees in general and Muslims in particular”, the Gulf Cooperation Council said, referring to a GCC heads of state meeting in Riyadh.
