Trump says America in crisis _ and he’ll fix it ‘fast’
“Vote your conscience”, he said, as if to highlight that Donald Trump is not a professional politician. Thinking about terrorism, 53 percent in a June Post-ABC poll said they were “very concerned” about lone-wolf terrorist attacks, with two-thirds saying they lack confidence in the federal government to stop them.
And the nation still remains on edge after police shootings in Dallas and Baton Rouge, along with the deaths of young black men in Louisiana and Minnesota. After a gunman claiming Islamic State allegiance killed 49 people at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, Trump said he’d be better than Clinton because he wouldn’t allow in Muslim immigrants who want to “murder gays”. But striking similarities were uncovered between portions of her speech and the one delivered by Michelle Obama at the 2008 Democratic convention. Ted Cruz wasn’t backing down. “Never ever. My message is that things have to change, and they have to change right now!” he said.
Trump was introduced by his daughter Ivanka, who worked to humanize her father and tried to appeal to women who may still be having second thoughts about Clinton.
Trump’s campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, was asked by CNN’s Jake Tapper why Trump was playing up fears of rising crime even though Federal Bureau of Investigation statistics show crime is in decline.
Trump’s speech was consistent with the theme of many of his previous speeches, where he painted the current state of the country as bleak, unsafe and constantly under attack, and saying only he could solve the various problems if elected president. “She’s been with us a long time and she just made a mistake”.
“America is far less safe – and the world is far less stable – than when Obama made the decision to put Hillary Clinton in charge of America’s foreign policy”, he said, to chants of “lock her up” from the audience. “I have seen him fight for his company and now I am seeing him fight for our country”, she said. But Onder – a Cruz delegate – said he believes some critics are ignoring Cruz’s basic message. Clinton was on the verge of naming a running mate to join her in taking on Trump and his vice presidential pick, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, in the general election. “This new wealth will improve the quality of life for all Americans”.
I’m no cheerleader for the status quo, but I don’t see how the Trump alternative would be an improvement.
In a rare moment of humility, Trump thanked the evangelical community. Though he vanquished 16 primary rivals, he’s viewed with unprecedented negativity by the broader electorate, and is struggling in particular with younger voters and minorities, groups GOP leaders know they need for the party to grow.
He praised his entire family for their speeches during the RNC. He said he would avoid multinational trade deals but instead pursue agreements with individual countries. Getting unusually specific, he promised tax relief, a national program to build highways, airports roads and to rebuild the military.
“I am not in the habit of supporting people who attack my wife and attack my father”, he said. Because when you go up to speak, you have to give your speech.
“In Louisiana, you know, we’re a very conservative state and so we want to hear from him, honestly, I think, conservative principles”, said Louisiana State Senator Sharon Hewitt.
