Trump says Clinton trying to rig debates with NFL conflicts
“I think we’re a big family and I think some of these bruises take time to heal”, he said.
The GOP nominee said the schedule, decided upon a year ago, is “unacceptable” and accused the Democrats of rigging the timetable.
STELTER: It’s not semantics if you send me a letter versus make a phone call.
The nonprofit, nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates was founded in 1987.
“I am going to be there”.
Campaigns routinely haggle over the details of the debates, right down to the temperature of the studio, but every major party candidate in modern times has ultimately agreed to participate. “Unacceptable!” he wrote. In an interview Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” Trump said he got a letter from the National Football League calling the conflict “ridiculous”. A debate has never been rescheduled as a result.
This video includes clips from CNN, Donald J. Trump for President Inc. “I don’t know how the dates are picked”. They added that it would be a disappointing thing for millions of voters who will now choose what to watch on those dates. (We have a couple more weeks to wait for that.) Today we’re faced with the story of a collision between this fall’s National Football League schedule and the highly anticipated debates between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Bernie Sanders on Saturday nights and holiday weekends, times when viewership is low. The NFL announced its 2016 schedule in April this year though it has traditionally scheduled games on Sundays, Mondays and, more recently, Thursdays. I will do three debates.
In an interview with ABC News, Trump said he’s “fine” with the commission’s three debates, but objected to the specific dates.
In a statement on Sunday afternoon, the commission indicated that the dates will not be changing: “CPD believes the dates for the 2016 debates will serve the American public well”. Trump announced June 16, 2015 he will run in the Republican presidential primary.
Two of the three debates scheduled in September and October will be televised during National Football League games. The first debate between Trump and Clinton will happen on September 26th, competing against the New Orleans/Atlanta Falcons game on ESPN.
This year, the debate on September 26 will be held during a Monday night Falcons vs. the Saints game, while the October 9 debate will air during a Sunday night Giants vs. Packers game.
He’s claimed that the debate schedule was “rigged” to help his main opponent, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, by possibly depressing the audience for those two debates. The Sanders campaign suggested that was an effort to limit the size of the audience.
“Hillary Clinton wants to be against the N.F.L.”, Mr. Trump said. Maybe he was referring to complaints by one or more of them, or maybe he “misspoke” ( political code for “lied”, of course).
In an interview with ABC News on July 29, which aired on ABC’s “This Week” on July 31, Trump was asked by host George Stephanopoulos about that debate schedule.
