Trump says he has ‘open mind’ on climate change accord
The visit included an on-the-record meeting at which Times staff was able to ask questions of Trump, as several Times reporters live-tweeted the proceedings.
Trump’s businesswoman daughter Ivanka joined her father’s telephone call with Argentine President Mauricio Macri earlier this month and attended a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, raising questions of possible conflicts of interest.
And of New York’s Chuck Schumer, the new Senate Democratic leader: “I’ve liked Chuck Schumer for a long time”. “I have tremendous respect”, Trump said, according to the Times’ Mike Grynbaum.
“There’s going to be an adversarial relationship because the media serves as a foil for Donald Trump’s message”, Steinhorn said.
If Trump’s appointees do not follow through on his pledge to investigate Clinton for what he claimed were criminal violations, “it would be a betrayal of his promise to the American people to “drain the swamp” of out-of-control corruption in Washington”, said the group Judicial Watch.
In 2014 he tweeted that “Global warming is an expensive hoax!”, and he said it was created by the Chinese to make USA manufacturing less competitive.
Even though Trump aide Kellyanne Conway briefly talked to reporters about the meeting afterward, media participants were constrained from talking publicly about it.
Also notable is what Trump didn’t do: He didn’t condemn the white supremacist groups like the National Policy Institute, which led the weekend gathering, by name – something that’s noticed every time Trump personally takes the time to slam the cast of “Hamilton” or wade into other feuds on his Twitter account. He called the newspaper “failing”, a favorite insult.

Under the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause, “no person holding any office of profit or trust under” the United States “shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state”. There is no such thing as a conflict of interest if you’re president, which, if you look at the letter of the rules, may be true.
Trump then: “Real change begins with immediately repealing and replacing Obamacare”, he said on the eve of the election.
