Addressing a crowd of 200 New Hampshire residents gathering around a backyard pool, the billionaire said: “I do not think I am the meanest person”.
In his statement Tuesday, Trump sought to clarify his remarks about illegal immigrants in more careful terms: “There is a high level of crime occurring in this country due to unchecked illegal immigration”.
On Monday, when Trump spoke to a sold-out crowd of 350 people at the City Club in Chicago, a crowd of protesters, many of them Latinos, demonstrated outside, Chicago media reported. The company said Thursday, June 25, it would pull the plug on its Spanish-language coverage of the pageant on July 12 by its UniMas network.
Univision said it would “continue to fight against Mr. Trump’s ongoing efforts to run away from the derogatory comments he made” about Mexican immigrants.
The lawsuit accuses Univision of a “thinly veiled attempt” to stifle Trump’s freedom of speech in order to boost Democratic frontrunner Hilary Clinton.
The lawsuit, which was filed with the New York State Supreme Court, states that Univision and the Miss Universe Organization, which Trump co-owns, had reached an agreement in January that included the rights to broadcast the Miss U.S, Miss Teen U.S and the Miss Universe competition from 2015 through 2019. The channel, under pressure from an array of hispanic groups, is severing its business ties with Trump, who is standing by his statements.
In a news release announcing the legal action, Trump doubled down on those comments.
The tables have now turned as the show’s producers are now looking for his replacement.
Toobin and Cooper agreed with his assessment, showing a 2011 quote from Trump critical of people crossing into the United States from Mexico.
Trump released a statement after NBC’s decision, calling the network “weak”.
Now Trump, who frequently threatens to sue when things do not go his way, has put his lawyers where his mouth is.
Cruz said Trump should not apologize for speaking about the problems regarding immigration. Trump has filed another claim of intentional interference with contractual relations, claiming that the company tried to lobby “behind the scenes” in order to force NBC to cancel its relationship with Trump as well.
